Morgantown Family Dance and Square Dance

Twin Falls State Park – (3/18-20) – GUITAR WEEKEND

Featuring Robin Kessinger, Robert Shafer and Jim Ritchey. The weekend is for anyone who is interested in learning how to play guitar or improving the skills that you may already possess. You'll be pickin with the best. Reservations are required. Call Twin Falls State Park at the number below. Kessinger and Shafer are well known nationally as award winning flatpickers. Having taught guitar extensively and performing annually throughout the world, Kessinger and Shafer present guitar workshops at different locations throughout the year. Ritchey is a singer-songwriter from Greensboro, North Carolina. His songwriting skills can be heard in "Tennessee Bottle," a song recorded by Kenny Rogers. Ritchey performs regularly in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. The workshop begins Friday, March 18, with a concert by the three artists, followed by guitar jams with participants and presenters. Throughout the day Saturday, the three guitarists will present workshops on flatpicking, fiddle tunes, swing music, voice accompaniment and blues. A Saturday evening open-stage concert by workshop participants will conclude the day. Participants will have space in the resort facility to jam throughout the weekend. The retreat will conclude Sunday at noon. "The" guitar weekend lodging package including meals (Saturday lunch, Sunday breakfast, and all breaks throughout the workshop) and instruction. Rates for two people staying two nights are $214 when staying in a lodge room, $138 for single occupancy; or $240 for two people staying two nights in a cabin.

North Bend State Park – (5/13-14) – 22nd annual BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL

For over 20 years, the Bluegrass Festival at North Bend State Park is a fun filled weekend of pickin’, grinin’, pluckin’, and singin’ with and by great bluegrass bands from the wild, wonderful state of West Virginia and from the surrounding region. During the festival, shop the displays of local WV artisans and find a special souvenir to take home. Visit other attractions and businesses while you're in the area. Performing bands will have merchandise for sale. Take home a CD of your favorite band! Throughout the festival enjoy snacks, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, and drinks from the North Bend Outdoor Grill. Lodge, cabin and camping packages include bluegrass festival admission. Day of fee for festival music is $10 per person for Friday; $25 per person for Saturday. Tygart Lake State Park – 6/11 – HOOKED ON FISHING NOT ON DRUGS

Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs. This is a great family event that incorporates an anti-drug and alcohol use message. Event is free to the public and events include, youth fishing derby, archery, face painting, police K-9 presentations, children's activities, prizes and much more! Tygart Lake State Park – 2/19 – CREATIVE WRITING WEEKEND

Creative Writing Weekend. A creative writing weekend with WVs own, instructor Colleen Anderson is a special weekend and time. Open to men, women and students ages 16 an older, this annual weekend is a must. Starting Friday evening and concluding Sunday. The weekend workshop includes two nights at Tygart Lake Lodge, the full workshop with Colleen Anderson and these meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on Saturday; Breakfast on Sunday; snack time on Friday evening; and twice on Saturday. Tygart Lake State Park – 2/6 – HISTORICAL TYGART LAKE PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT

Historical Tygart Lake Photography Exhibit. Walk Through the Photos of the Past. View Army Corp of Engineer Photographs that depict the building of Tygart Lake Dam - an awesome construction project. Exhibit opening night is February 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Tygart Lake Conference Room. Free and open to the public. Exhibit remains in place through February 11, 2016. Don't forget to make time to enjoy a meal at Apple Annie's - Tygart Lake Lodge restaurant. Great food. Wonderful setting.

Hawks Nest State Park – 1/30 – HAWKS NEST TUNNEL DISASTER

Unburied Secrets! Don't miss this one-time presentation at Hawks Nest State Park! This powerful presentation by Jonathan Cavendish will transport you to the events leading up to the Hawks Nest Disaster. Growing up as the son of Stanley Cavendish, a Gauley Bridge native who was the project engineer for the construction of the Hawks Nest Tunnel, he will unfold tales from his childhood along with unseen historical photos. Pipestem Resort SP – East River Mountain Town Band Christmas Concert

The annual Sunday afternoon of Christmas and holiday music performed by the 45 member East River Mountain Town Band of Bluefield, WV and the surrounding area. The concert will take place in the Conference Center of McKeever Lodge and will begin at 3:00 pm. There is no charge to attend, everyone is welcomed to attend this Sunday in the park program.
