Mountain Trail Challenge Half Marathon & 5K Run

Trail running - It's a challenge. Two races both begin Saturday, August 12th at 8:30 a.m. from the Beaver Creek Campground at Watoga State Park. Age groups are: 14 and younger, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and going strong. Great event, wonderful venue. Chip timing by TriStateRacer. Race entry is fee based. Durbin Days

This event is 3 evenings, 1 full day, and a Sunday afternoon of fun, entertainment, and learning for all ages. Various events pit contestants to be the best at horseshoes, tug-of-war, greased pig chase, pet showing, karaoke, hay bale throwing, archery shooting, and running or walking the 5K. There is music, bingo, food, and a carnival every day but Sunday. For Sunday we're planning a community covered dish noon meal and gospel music which is an addition to our festival. Saturday is a day filled with children’s activities, car show/and fireworks interspersed with other events listed above. We also include the Fireman's Parade on Friday and will be holding "Incarcerate a Friend" at the newly renovated town jail on Saturday.

Charleston Area Medical Center “Run For Your Life” 5-mile Race & 2.5-Mile Walk

This race begins at Haddad Riverfront Park and takes runners through Charleston, up and around the historic Spring Hill cemetery and back to Haddad Riverfront Park. The walk begins in the same location, goes through Charleston and up to the base of the Farnsworth ramp, then turns around and retraces the path.

Nicholas County Potato Festival

The Nicholas County Potato Festival will celebrate 47 years in September of 2016. There will be a pet pageant, mashed potato and tater tot eating contests, corn hole competition, firemen's parade, 5 K race/walk, spud hunt, sack race, entertainment, grand parade, potato idol competition, car and tractor shows, hot wing eating contest, farmer's market, amusement rides. Food, fun and great neighbors!
