Harpers Ferry

Dolly Sods Wilderness

You won’t want to forget your camera on this adventure! Reaching altitudes of 4,100, Dolly Sods Wilderness is the highest plateau east of the Mississippi River. One afternoon here, and you’ll know exactly why West Virginia is Almost Heaven. Dolly Sods is one of the most photographed locations in the state, with its wind-swept trees and sprawling vistas.


Hit the trails to experience how this spring stop got its name: Grandview. The main overlook is positioned more than 1,400 feet above the New River and offers unmatched scenic views. This stunning view offers viewers glimpses of rhododendrons in the spring and summer.

Hawks Nest

Experience amazing spring scenic views on Hawks Nest’s aerial tramway. Enjoy the ride as the aerial tram descends 446 feet to the New River Gorge. From there, you can head upstream to take in the views of the famous New River Gorge Bridge. Hawks Nest also offers jetboat rides if you want to see the New River Gorge from a new perspective.

Coopers Rock

A short stroll will lead you to the amazing views. Located in the heart of Mountaineer Country, Coopers Rock is a perfect spring stop.
