Snowboarding… in October? In the city street?
Can’t wait till winter? Motown Throwdown brings the slopes out early— really early!
Never mind that real flurries are a full month or 2 away. Motown Throwdown in Morgantown brings out snow machines and top athletes for a pre-season skiing and snowboarding competition in October, before you even start taking your Halloween decorations down.
And it’s all right downtown. Towering ramps and wicked grind rails rise above the main street shopfronts. Let the (winter) games begin!
Flippin’ out for stunts
Since Motown Throwdown is one of the earliest winter competitions in America, snowboarders and skiers from across the country flock in to show off their flips, grinds and grabs.
Technicians install slopes and ramps, so everything is industry standard. You have to be invited to Motown to actually participate, but watching from the sidelines is a blast, too. Snowboarders fly and flip right towards you, slush spraying.
And as dusk falls, street lights and shopfronts make the white avenue glow.
Let’s party!
No ski town worth its salt lacks an après-ski scene, and Morgantown keeps the party rolling with eclectic nightlife.
Once the competition ends, head over to Mainstage Morgantown for hours of mitten-clapping entertainment. Live music, stage performances and costume contests are just some of the excitement on tap.
You can also score incredible deals at Pathfinder, West Virginia’s largest independent outdoor adventure shop. In honor of the Throwdown, they’ll slash prices on winter gear and apparel. Stock up for the season!
