Fly Fishing

For trophy trout, visit Harman’s Luxury Log Cabins when stocking happen in early September, and at the beginning and middle of October and November. If you’re a first time angler, Harman’s offers guides that can be booked in advance. Milligan Creek near Lewisburg is home to a one-mile section for fly fishing, and is West Virginia’s only home for native brook trout.

On the Lake

Visit Stonewall Jackson Lake for bass fishing, known for some of the best bass fishing in West Virginia. The lake only allows catch-and-release, and the Marina at  Stonewall Resort offers guided fishing trips.

Plum Orchard Lake at the Plum Orchard Lake Wildlife Management Area is perfect for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and channel catfish.

Visit Jennings Randolph Lake for 952 acres of fishing. The lake is home to trophy-sized walleye, which are regularly stocked.

Fishing Tips:

  • Fishing licenses are good for one calendar year, and you must purchase a new license at the beginning of each year.
  • All licensed anglers must carry a valid form of identification while fishing.
  • Some fishing spots such as Plum Orchard Lake do not permit the use of minnows.
  • Some spots like Stonewall Jackson Lake only allow for catch-and-release.
