Fall Color & Adventure

Gaze at the inspiring multicolored leaves painted on the rolling hills and forests. Witness hundreds of exhilarated jumpers as they dive into the gorge below an iconic West Virginia landmark. Breathtaking.

Leaf Peepers Festival

The Leaf Peepers Festival celebrates fall foliage and the splendor that comes with this magical time of the year. Fall color comes early to the rural town of Davis, West Virginia and the top of the mountain state. Therefore, Leaf Peepers is held annually the last full week of September.

Mountain State Forest Festival

Mountain State Forest Festival in Elkins is one of the largest and oldest festivals in West Virginia, continuing to promote the beauty of our mountains and valleys in all their autumn glory.  This festival offers something for everyone to enjoy: concerts, lumberjack competition, forestry & wood exhibits, arts and crafts, amusement rides and parades.

Bridge Day

Bridge Day is West Virginia’s largest single-day festival and one of the largest extreme sports events in the world. Held annually every third Saturday in October on the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayette County, West Virginia, this is the only day each year thousands of spectators can walk across the bridge and watch as serious BASE jumpers get their chance to fly 876 feet into the Gorge below and rappellers ascend and descend from the catwalk. Come and enjoy the view from the bridge, one of the best overlooks in the New River Gorge.

Oglebayfest

Oglebayfest began in 1978 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Oglebay Park.  Celebrate the wonders of fall with festival food, 5K Run/walk at the Oglebay Good Zoo, parade, fireworks and much more.

FestivAll Fall

West Virginia’s capital city of Charleston will celebrate FestivALL Fall for its 8th consecutive year and extend the popular city-wide multi-arts summer event into autumn for a weekend full of visual art, music, dance, theater and family fun.

Preston County Buckwheat Festival

The Preston County Buckwheat Festival, which begins on the last Thursday of September, is one of West Virginia’s oldest festivals. The event began in Kingwood in 1938 and celebrates what was once one of the county’s most important crops. Historic Hazelton Mill is re-started around festival time to grind and bag the flour, which can be purchased year-round in the region. Be to celebrate and try one of the famous buckwheat cakes during the four-day festival.

Taste of Our Towns Festival

Since 1984, the second Saturday in October has been reserved for the Taste of Our Towns festival or TOOT. Held on the streets of historic downtown Lewisburg, local restaurants, shops and civic groups share their favorite delicacies from crab cakes and pot pies to pumpkin fudge and bread pudding. The flavors of the season are more than just tempting, each is a little bite of paradise.

Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival

Experience the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival in Martinsburg this fall. Enjoy an old town parade through the downtown streets of Martinsburg, tasty baking contests, live music, pop-up shops, and artisan craft festival and more. The Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival is devoted to the community, apple industry, local history, and heritage.

Mothman Festival

​Mothman Festival is an annual event held every third weekend in September that commemorates the 1966 Point Pleasant, West Virginia Mothman sighting, which gave birth to the infamous red-eyed winged legend.  People from all over the world gather around the charming downtown Point Pleasant to celebrate their favorite cryptid during this one-of-a-kind event.

Asylum After Dark

Visit the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum after hours and see all things spooky first hand. Take thrills to a whole new level and experience the award-winning haunted house that is not recommended for the faint of heart. Face your fears on one of three flashlight tours of the main building or enjoy the Asylum’s annual family-friendly fall festival.
