Top Destinations to Chase Fall Foliage This Week

Department of Tourism shares sixth fall foliage update of 2026

Charleston, W.Va. – Fall is still lingering across the Mountain State with foliage still dazzling in peak places. The West Virginia Department of Tourism has issued its sixth official 2026 foliage report and updated statewide map. This week’s top destinations to see fall foliage include Charleston, Hatfield-McCoy Mountains, Wheeling, Huntington, and Point Pleasant. Catch pops of vibrant red, orange and crimson color on sugar maple trees across the southern and lower-elevation regions of the state.

Travelers planning a fall getaway can easily pair foliage viewing with unique local attractions:

The West Virginia Paranormal Trail

This week’s spooky spotlight is the Mothman Museum in the heart of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Discover the silver statue and dive deeper into the shadowy legend that has haunted the town since the 1960s.

Fall SWINGO Challenge

Check in at ‘Almost Heaven’ swings in the region to earn exclusive West Virginia prizes. Stop by the following locations this week to get the perfect fall photo: University of Charleston, Chief Logan State Park, Rockhouse Trail System, Grand Vue Park, Rotary Park, Beech Fork Lake and Tu-Endie-Wei State Park.

The last day to participate in the Paranormal Trail and SWINGO Challenges is December 31, 2026.

Travelers and locals are invited to join the conversation by using #AlmostHeaven and tagging @wvtourism on social media with photos to help create the state’s weekly fall foliage updates.
