Plan Ahead: Spring Adventure

While we love winter in #AlmostHeaven, we are admittedly pretty excited for sunny days and spring flowers. The fresh feeling of bright blue skies is just around the corner and we can’t wait!

While we play it safe and keep our distance, here are the adventures we are planning for the upcoming season.

In-Town Escapes

With warm weather rolling in, the cities and mountain towns of West Virginia come to life.

Charleston: The flower beds of the Capitol Complex are a sight for sore eyes after a long winter. It is hard to beat the view of the Capitol dome sparkling in the spring sunshine. Head down the street to the Capitol Market, which hits its prime during the warm months. Whether you grab a fresh meal at the Sushi Garden or grab some fresh produce for home, the Capitol Market is always a must-visit in the spring.

Martinsburg: In beautiful Berkley County, you can enjoy eclectic shopping and historic adventure. Open each year beginning in April, tours of the Martinsburg Roundhouse are packed with history, dating back to the Civil War. Or head to nearby Shepherdstown where you will find beautiful blooms and European luxury at the Bavarian Inn. Finish up your spring day with a slice of gourmet deliciousness from Everything Cheesecake.

Rugged Adventure

The hills of Almost Heaven bloom with excitement as chilly weather gives way to sunny days.

Mercer County: Enjoy all that spring has to offer nestled within the Appalachian mountain. While a year-round adventure, the Hatfield-McCoy Trails are perfectly enjoyed in the warmer months. Enjoy over 700 miles of off-roading heaven starting with the Pocahontas trailhead in Bramwell. Spend some time in Bluefield, where The Railyard awaits serving up mouth-watering dishes and brews.

Water Thrills

While springtime may be too chilly to go for a dip, the first sign of spring flowers has us all itching to hit the water.

Adventures on the Gorge: Few adventures are more memorable than time spent on the New River Gorge. Take on a float fishing trip to really get to know the deep pools and swift currents of the gorge. Choose from a half-day float to anything up to a 3 day overnight, with delicious meals and riverside camping. With knowledgeable guides and all equipment provided, everyone can enjoy a float fishing expedition with Adventures on the Gorge.

ACE Adventure Resort: Looking for a different adventure on the gorge? Give a whitewater rafting trip a try. Whether you are a newcomer to the rapids or an avid rafter, ACE can run trips for just about anyone, including kids. In the springtime, you can enjoy the Lower New River Gorge and all of its bends and rapids. Choose from the offered half or full-day trips or look into private trips that are perfect for a family or party.
