Bring Your Four-Legged Friends Along for These Almost Heaven Adventures

It’s hard to beat an adventure in Almost Heaven. One thing that can always make an adventure better, though, is bringing your four-legged family members along with you to enjoy the experience. Bring your pets along on your next Mountain State Adventure so they can join in on the fun, too.

Explore Dolly Sods Wilderness

Views that last for days. Incredible hiking. A sense of true adventure. These things come in abundance in Dolly Sods Wilderness. There are roughly 47 miles of trails throughout Dolly Sods Wilderness to explore. One of the most popular areas found within Dolly Sods is Bear Rocks Preserve, featuring one of the best scenic overlooks in the state. There is plenty of open space for your pup to roam free, as well as an abundance of small rock forms to play on throughout the area.

Adventure Through The Cranberry Glades

The Cranberry Glades Botanical Area is one of the many noteworthy stops along the Highland Scenic Highway. The Glades consist of 750 acres of bogs that feature plant life typically found much further north, proving to be the southernmost home of many of the plant species. The Glades can be viewed from a short, easily accessible boardwalk, and it is also home to a six-mile hiking path that serves as a border between the Cranberry Glades Botanical Area and the Cranberry Glades Wilderness.

Stand-Up Paddleboard on Summersville Lake

Summersville Lake is home to some of the clearest lake water on the East Coast. The lake has more than 60 miles of shoreline and covers 2,700 acres. One of the most popular spring and summer activities is stand-up paddleboarding. Bring your pet along and paddle your way across the serene clear water of the Summersville Lake.

Enjoy the Serenity of Sandstone Falls

Sandstone Falls is located just a short drive down New River Road from the historic town of Hinton. Sandstone Falls is the largest waterfall on the New River, spanning roughly 1500 feet across the river. The park is divided by a series of islands, and they are accessible by a boardwalk and several trails. The area is a popular spot for hiking and fishing, and is the perfect place to bring your pets along for an afternoon journey.

Adventure is for everyone in Almost Heaven. Bring your pets along so they can be right by your side experiencing unbeatable outdoor recreation in the Mountain State.
