Almost Heaven Mountain Biking the Whole Family Can Enjoy

With our rolling mountains and lush forest views, mountain biking can be found throughout all of West Virginia. Home to extreme trail rides such as those of the 2019 and 2021 Mountain Biking World Cup, Almost Heaven also has trails perfect for the whole family. Strap on your helmet and hit the trails with the whole family this spring.

Clovis Loop

Fayetteville, WV

The innermost loop of the Arrowhead trail system, Clovis Loop is flat, obstacle-free, and perfect for the whole family. While Clovis Loop is usually used as a warm-up loop for more serious mountain bikers, the minimal elevation allows riders of all ages to enjoy mountain biking.

Trail Tip: If you want to check out the latest in mountain bike gear, you can rent it at the nearby Arrowhead Bike Farm. Or grab a bite to eat at their Handle Bar + Kitchen between trails.

Roadside Trail

Bruceton Mills, WV

You will find this family-friendly trail within Coopers Rock State Forest. Roadside Trail is perfect for families who wish to explore the woods whilst staying near the road. After your ride, be sure to venture out to experience the unmatched views from the beloved Coopers Rock overlook.

Trail Tip: Riders can ride in either direction on this trail, so keep an eye out for incoming bikers.

Yellow Trail

Hurricane, WV

At Meeks Mountain Trails, find an impressive collection of extraordinarily maintained trails. There is a trail for every level of biker here, with the Yellow Trail being considered a “beginners paradise.”

Trail Tip: If you fall in love with this trail network, be sure to keep an eye on the Meeks Mountain Trails calendar, as they often host both biking and running events.

Copperhead Trail

Volcano, WV

Situated within a greater collection of nearly 30 miles of trails in Mountwood Park, the Copperhead Trail is a favorite for young families. This 1.2 mile loop boats a rolling pathway and only a few technical sections, perfect for putting beginner skills to the test.

Trail Tip: If you find a favorite trail here this spring, be sure to mark your calendar to come back when the leaves change. The expansive Mountwood Park trail system is open year-round with gorgeous leaf-peeping opportunities each fall.

Lakeside Nature Trail

Weston, WV

Ideal for beginners, Lakeside Nature Trail is located within Stonewall Resort State Park. During your ride, you will enjoy glimpses of the beautiful lake while riding along the north shore of Carrion Bay.

Trail Tip: Avoid this trail on rainy days, as it can become very muddy due to the clay soil types in the region.

Davis Creek Trail

Charleston, WV

Don’t forget to pack a picnic before you hit this trail. With many picnic areas and playgrounds along the way, Davis Creek Trail is the perfect place for a spring family outing. This Kanawha State Forest trail is great for riders of all skills. You’ll even get to cross a footbridge on your adventure!

Trail Tip: This high-traffic trail is used for hiking as well as biking, so keep an eye out for those not on wheels.
