West Virginia is the only state completely covered in the Appalachian Mountain Range, which means it’s home to an abundance of Almost Heaven trails. The topography found here has awarded the Mountain State with being named an international mountain biking destination.

Kanawha State Forest

Located less than ten miles from the state capital of Charleston lies over 9,000 acres of adventurous land within the Kanawha State Forest. Take in the famous wildflower and bird populations while biking your options of over 30 miles of varied trails. This location is ideal for all skill levels and offers easy stints of forest service roads as well as challenging feats like the Black Bear Mountain Trail.

Meeks Mountain Trails

Found in the heart of the Metro Valley, you won’t want to miss a rip-roaring ride at Meeks Mountain Trails. This trail system is a project that first began in 2018 with a mission to build and sustain a network of trails for the health and well-being of the people of Putnam County. Today, the trail system has over 20 miles of trails and continues to grow and welcome new visitors every day.

Refuel with a visit to the nearby Whiskey Taco, a favorite among locals that serves up just that. From burritos and tacos to fajitas and nachos, it’s easy to relax and unwind while filling up after a rugged day spent on the trails.

Beech Fork State Park

Encompassing over 3,000 serene acres, Beech Fork State Park offers a multitude of activity options including hiking, geocaching, swimming, fishing, golfing and mountain biking, just to name a few. All 14 miles of mountain biking trails found within the park are open all year long, making this a perfect spot to escape to whenever you’d like.

Stay overnight in one of the fully-furnished cabins overlooking Beech Fork Lake. Or for a more rustic experience, choose between one of the park’s 275 available campsites. Spend your evenings exploring the endless unique dining options that call nearby Huntington home.
