Gritt’s Farm

Buffalo , WV

Since 1927, Gritt’s Farm has been a working farm in Buffalo, WV. Beginning as a homestead farm, the farm has seen many different faces over the years. The early years were all about eggs and at its peak saw 15,000 chickens on the farm. The eggs were delivered door to door around the Kanawha Valley. The 70s and 80s saw a lot of grain farming along the Kanawha River in Buffalo and Winfield. In the mid 1980s, the visionary 2nd generation farmer, Lee Gritt, moved farming indoors and begin building greenhouses. Lee and the 3rd generation farmer, Bob Gritt, became the first in West Virginia to grow hydroponic tomatoes in 1985. Tobacco was a large part of the farm as well from the 1980s until the early 2000s. Present day the farm is a three-season farm with hydroponic produce, garden center, summer outdoor produce, wedding venue, CSA, and Gritt's Fun Farm in the fall. There is also an assortment of animals on the farm with grass fed beef, goats, rabbits, chickens, and two dogs. Throughout all the years and still present day, our focus has always been on providing locally grown, farm fresh products.
