Holiday Traditions in Almost Heaven
For many, it is the family traditions that make the holiday season so memorable. This year may be a bit different, as we all work to keep our loved ones safe, but there are still ways we can make this season sweet.
Getting a real Christmas tree

Holiday magic comes alive when you pile in the car and head out on a scenic drive to find your perfect Christmas tree. The fresh and delectable smell of evergreen fills your nostrils as you stroll the aisles looking for the perfect tree. Whether you pick a fir that is full and grand or tall and thin, the moment you find the perfect tree is unbeatable. The hard work starts as you strap your selection on top of your car and head home to set it up, but for that moment all is at peace.
At this point in the year, our Christmas tree farms have all sold out and are closed for the season. Despite this, we had many great weeks of tree shopping thanks to the efforts of these farms to keep this outdoor activity safe!
Skiing

The thrill of skiing down a snowy mountain is hard to beat this time of year. Whether you hit the slopes each year with friends and family or head out on your own, this tradition is beloved by many. With the fresh winter sun glistening along a frozen hill, you can take in the beauty of Almost Heaven all while thrill-seeking.
The options are limitless when choosing a winter resort in West Virginia, with everything from cross country to downhill skiing options. Our resorts are diligently working to keep all activities safe while adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines. Prepare for cozy vibes and unlimited adventure on your annual winter sports adventure.
Seeing Christmas lights

Drive through holiday lights displays are one tradition we are pleased to safely carry on this season. There are few better ways to socially distance than hopping in the car and heading out for a festive drive. With sparkling light-lined pathways in every corner of the state, holiday magic is in abundance in Almost Heaven this year.
With tunnels of bright lights and giant Christmas trees, our state’s light displays get better each season. Grab some snacks and pile in the car to head out on a dreamy light searching adventure.
Enjoying a Feast

With our rich and unique culture in Almost Heaven, holiday feasts are an annual affair. A Christmas ham and sugary desserts are a staple for most families, though unique dishes are sure to be found on each holiday table. This season our grand gatherings and big family feasts may not be on the schedule, but we are finding other ways to show our love.
Whether through video conferencing or food drop-offs, making memories with family can still be done while playing it safe. This holiday season may be a bit different, but it is definitely one to remember.
Christmas Parades

Lining the streets of our town with festive crowds may be off the table this year, but many towns have found ways to bring this holiday season to life. With certain towns creating drive through parades to bring joy to those in assisted living facilities and others hosting virtual events, festive fun has persevered.
While holiday traditions of years past have kept our hearts warm this year, we have made new lasting memories of a season like no other. If you are looking to make more memories this snowy season, sign up to receive winter updates straight to your inbox!
