Find your own Almost Heaven Beach (really!)
Landlocked West Virginia may not stretch to the ocean, but that doesn’t mean fun in the sun is far away. In fact, these lakes give way to beautiful, serene beaches that make for the perfect summer day. Pack your swimsuit, snacks and get ready for a fun day lakeside on the beach.
Tygart Lake
Tygart Lake State Park is located near Grafton, at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. It’s known for the 10-mile long, 1,750-acre lake that offers activities like boating, water skiing, scuba diving, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and fishing. The beach area is the perfect getaway for families to relax after a day on the water.
Sutton Lake
Clear blue freshwater is calling your name at Sutton Lake. On the lake, you can water ski, wake board, jet ski, tube, fish and boat. Adjacent to the marina is a small beach at Bee Run Recreation Area where visitors can lay out or build sandcastles. There are also showers, bathrooms, picnic areas, pavilions and a kids’ playground.
Summersville Lake
West Virginia’s largest lake, Summersville Lake, is the center for all water activities. Whether it’s boating and fishing or water skiing and siwmming, Summersville Lake is a great way to spend a summer day. If you’d like to sunbathe after a long day on the water, you can relax on the nearby beach under the rays.
