Join us on September 9 and 10 for the Cockayne Farmstead’s second annual World War II Weekend. This year’s free event will take place behind John Marshall High School in Glen Dale, WV. Check out the World War II encampment to learn from re-enactors what a soldier’s experience might have been like. Then take a look inside a 1940s house to learn about how the homefront helped the war effort. Kids can try the Boot Camp Obstacle Course, write a V-mail letter to a veteran, and make a paper toyin the Children’s Area. All ages can listen to our fantastic speakers and learn about topics like the Ghost Army, World War II tanks, the Tuskegee Airmen, the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, and the many ways Marshall County participated in the war effort. Meet and Greet a veteran and thank them for their service, and listen to the sounds of the 40s played by the Eli Lambie Jazz Trio. Food will be available by Mason Dixon BBQ and the Guest House Restaurant all weekend, Ice Cream Island on Saturday, and Woodfired Pizza on Sunday. A Vintage Car Show will also be held in the John Marshall parking lot on Saturday.
