Please join Harpers Ferry Civil War Round Table and the Harpers Ferry Park Association for a guided tour of Civil War graves at Harper Cemetery, at 6 pm, Wednesday, March 13.
Despite its importance during the Civil War, Harpers Ferry and its cemeteries never became burial grounds for large numbers of soldiers, and some buried there were later reinterred at Antietam National Cemetery and elsewhere. But some notable veterans and Civil War-era townsfolk with interesting stories rest in peace in Harper Cemetery. We will make our way to the graves of some of these individuals and hear their stories from HFPA Certified Guides and members of the Round Table.
This event is free and open to the public, but you must reserve your space by contacting Chris Craig at ccraig@laurellodge.com or 304-433-1260. We will carry on in light rain (bring an umbrella), but you will receive email notification if there is a weather cancellation. Parking is very limited next to the cemetery, and you will learn of parking options at the time of your reservation. Although walking distances are limited, the cemetery is hilly, and participants must be ready to walk and stand for the duration of the tour. Though we plan on finishing around dusk, a flashlight may be helpful. There is no dinner associated with this program.
