To Kill a Mockingbird

March 28, 2019 - March 31, 2019

Southern Coalition for the Arts presents Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

After the Montgomery Bus Boycott, before the March on Washington, in the heart of the Civil Rights movement, Harper Lee published her only novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird.”  The ARTS is bringing this Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece to stage in March. Atticus Finch, lead character in the play, espoused beliefs championed by Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., by fighting for social and racial equality by using nonviolence. Set twenty years before Rosa Parks took the first step by sitting, “To Kill a Mockingbird” takes place in 1935 Maycomb, Alabama. The play shines a light on injustice and racism in the south.
