Patriots and Heroes Weekend - September 13, 2025

September 13 @ 10:00 am - September 14 @ 5:00 pm

Formerly known as World War II Weekend, we are excited to announce that Patriots and Heroes Weekend will take place on September 13-14, 2025.

Join us to honor our veterans of all eras and learn about their stories. From the Revolutionary War to the Civil War to World War II to Vietnam, help us pay homage to all who have fought for our country and share their history with the next generation.

The weekend will include reenactor camps and demonstrations, many interactive displays, a fantastic lineup of speakers, military vehicles, a chance to meet and thank local veterans in person, food trucks, kids’ activities and more.

If you are a veteran, we invite you to join us for our Opening Ceremony at 10 am on Saturday, September 13, as we kick off the weekend remembering the whole reason this event exists – our veterans! If you would like to participate, plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can honor you by name during the ceremony and thank you for your service. Wear something that represents your branch, if you like! We will also be joined by the John Marshall Fife and Drum Corps to start the event with pizzazz!

Once the event opens, there will be so much to see and do! Shop all things military surplus at our Quartermaster Store, an exciting new addition this year, thanks to the Mountaineer Military Museum in Weston.

You’ll be able to get up close to various antique military vehicles, from jeeps to a deuce and a half! To learn about our military history, check out reenactor camps portraying World War II, Civil War, and Revolutionary War soldiers.

Grab a bite to eat from Shreff’s Hometown BBQ or Chick-fil-a (Saturday only), get your coffee kick from Tacet Coffee (Sunday only), scoop some ice cream or pastries from the Crumby Apron, or support our local American Legion Auxiliary at their concession stand.

One of the event highlights is our selection of amazing speakers covering a variety of topics in two speaker tents! Our speaker schedule is almost ready, so keep your eyes peeled!

Under the Veterans Tent (sponsored by AEP Mitchell Plant and the Marshall County Commission), you’ll find several local American Legions, VFWs, the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable, and Jim Belcher with his impressive display about the USS Indianapolis. Get to know our local veterans and the many important things they do in our community today.

In connection with this event, we will also hold a 1940s Swing Dance on Saturday evening, September 13, at St. Jude Hall in Glen Dale. Put on your dancing shoes and prepare to be serenaded by Matt Hill and Friends playing all your swing favorites. Vintage attire is encouraged but not required. Dancers and watchers both welcome! Snacks, root beer floats, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Tickets will be $10 per person at the door; all veterans receive free admission. No outside alcohol is permitted at the dance.

Want to learn to swing dance before the big day? We’re offering two free swing dance lessons to get you ready on Thursday, September 4 and Thursday, September 11, at the Glen Dale United Methodist Church. Please RSVP to (304) 845-1411 so we know how many to expect.
