Big Green Data: Herbals, Science, & Art

September 19, 2021 @ 2:00 am - 4:00 am

Dr. Lara Farina will discuss the categorization and naming of plants in ancient and medieval cultures, with a special focus on herbals. Herbals were pharmacological reference works that identified the medical uses of plants, but these massive books also influenced the literature and art of medieval Europe and the Middle East.
Dr. Donna Ford-Werntz will discuss the WVU Herbarium in historical and modern contexts of plant taxonomy. After the presentation, participants are encouraged to view the Big Green Data display in the upper level of the Education & Event Center. Most appropriate for adults. Free for WVBG members, $15 for non-members.
