Bach’s Goldberg Variations – ACMF Summer Festival - August 9, 2026
You asked for more Bach- we listened! We are delighted to return to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in the heart of historic Shepherdstown for a splendid rendition of Bach’s groundbreaking Goldberg Variations.
Enjoy a sweet treat from Bolivar Bread Bakery and coffee, and be swept away by the beauty of this groundbreaking work. Originally written for a two-manual harpsichord, you will hear the metamorphosis of these variations for string trio. The apocryphal tale of how the Goldberg Variations were created tells of Bach creating each movement as part of his musical instruction and friendship with the musician Johann Gottlieb Goldberg. As the story goes, these movements were part education and part entertainment for their patron, the Count of Saxony, Kaiserling, during sleepless nights. We take this story as inspiration for this program, and as a representation of the magic that happens when boundaries fall, and music is inspired by the people and places that surround us.
We are delighted to bring this special performance of Bach’s music to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Bach was a Lutheran himself and composed his famous cantatas (a new one nearly every week) for his local parish.
This event lasts approximately 60 minutes.
Program includes
Bach – Goldberg Variations (60’)

Violins: Rachelle Hunt, Suliman Tekalli
