Art in the Park: Murphy Chambers Farm - August 1, 2026

August 1 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join a Park Ranger on a historical journey through the footsteps of the past at Murphy-Chambers Farm, where the land bore witness to Civil War fighting and later welcomed Civil Rights activists in their fight for equality.

This free event invites you to grab your art supplies, engage with the community, and enjoy the beauty and warmth of summer, along with spectacular views of the Shenandoah River and the surrounding mountains! Sit among the grasslands and Civil War cannons and earthworks, explore one of the previous locations of the John Brown Fort, listen to the birds sing, and replicate the landscape of this historic place.

Meet at the Murphy-Chambers Farm parking area at 9:00 AM for a short walk through fields and wooded ravines where you’ll create art “En Plein Air” inspired by the scenery and history. Please bring your own portable art supplies, including seating arrangements and easels if needed. Sketchbooks and pastels are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program will conclude at 12:00 PM, but you’re welcome to stay longer. All skill levels are encouraged to participate!

Reservations are recommended.

A portable restroom will be available on site. The short walk has minimal elevation changes with a gravel path. This program is subject to cancellation due to extreme heat.

Sponsored by the Harpers Ferry Park Association and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
