The first official observance of Mother’s Day was held in 1908, when Anna Jarvis organized a memorial ceremony in Grafton, West Virginia, to honor her mother and mothers everywhere. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a Congressional resolution establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
