Pay Range: Dependent on experience, includes state benefit package, typical range for Cultural Facilities Manager starts at $43,357
Work Location: Moundsville, WV

The successful candidate for the Cultural Facilities Manager position will be enthusiastic and organized, with strong leadership skills and attention to detail. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations at the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex and supervising all employees working at the site. 

The successful candidate should be a good communicator who maintains strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, researchers, and community partners, and who strives for excellence in managing all aspects of facility operations, including maintaining the building and grounds to a high standard.

About Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex

The Grave Creek Archaeological Complex is home to multiple entities, including a museum, an archaeological research center, and a National Register of Historic Places site. The mission of the complex is to preserve the site of the Grave Creek Mound, interpret the archaeological record of West Virginia for the public, and manage the state’s archaeological collections. The museum exhibits begin with fossils and ice age animals, a tour through archaeological sites in West Virginia, and then culminate with displays about the prehistoric Adena people and the construction of the Grave Creek Mound. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects the condition of the facility
  • Arranges for repairs or modifications as necessary
  • Oversees all events and programming at the facility
  • Supervises volunteers and full-time or seasonal staff
  • Reports to the Director of the State Museum to obtain approval for projects 
  • Coordinates purchasing for items and services needed at the site 
  • Reports site data, such as visitation and other metrics, to the Director of the State Museum
  • Represents the facility at meetings and events 
  • Works closely with the Tourism Marketing team on promotional materials for events at the facility
  • Prepares and writes justification for facility budget
  • Monitors spending within the site’s budget
  • Implements all policies and procedures as required
  • Conducts tours of the facility

Position Details 

This position is located in Moundsville, West Virginia, and requires a full-time work schedule during regular business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, to align with visitor hours. Some weekend and evening work is required. Remote work is not permitted.  Limited travel is required. 

This job opportunity is not a Civil Service position and is not covered under the Administrative Rule of the WV Division of Personnel. The position does include access to the full range of health, retirement, and other benefits afforded to West Virginia state employees.
