West Virginia’s largest single-day festival, Bridge Day, is when thousands gather to watch daredevils jump off the iconic New River Gorge Bridge into the beautiful canyon below. The bridge is closed to through traffic every third Saturday in October and welcomes hundreds of food and craft vendors to line the road. This year, one lucky winner will receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tandem BASE jump off of the New River Gorge Bridge on Bridge Day, October 21, 2023. The winner will not only be given the complimentary tandem BASE jump, but also have all travel expenses covered for themselves and a plus one, accommodations and more. Entries must be made by Saturday, September 30. One winner will be notified two weeks prior to the travel date to West Virginia, Thursday, October 5.

What is Tandem BASE Jumping?

BASE jumping is the recreational sport of jumping from fixed objects using a parachute to safely reach the ground. “BASE” is an acronym that represents the four categories of fixed options from which one can jump, including buildings, antennae, spans and the earth. Being able to BASE jump on your own requires years of experience and over 200 skydives, while tandem BASE jumping gives the inexperienced person a chance to experience a jump. Divers will be harnessed to a qualified instructor during a tandem BASE jump.

Meet Your Jumping Partner

First-rated instructor and owner of Tandem BASE, Sean Chuma will be jumping alongside one lucky winner of the free tandem jump contest. Sean helped develop the new sport by making the very first TandemBASE Jumps during its experimental phase, adding more unique and exciting activities to his full-time parachuting career. He holds over 4,000 skydives and 7,400 BASE Jumps, the most of anyone in the world, and also runs a world-renown school called I-D BASE that teaches experienced skydivers how to BASE jump.
