The outdoor recreation hub of Central West Virginia is SpencerTrails! With over 25 miles and counting of expertly designed single track trails, unique rock gardens, ancient ruins to hike or ride your bike by, and even an award winning winery at one trailhead. The best marked trail system in the state is here in Spencer, WV. Every trail junction and trailhead marked with signs telling you the trail name and difficulty. Beautiful trailhead kiosks at all trailheads. "You Are Here" signs placed throughout trails. Interpretive arboretum. Fun "features" for mountain bikers to ride. Hike or bike to the historic 1910 concrete Ben's Run Dam, a 40' high abandoned structure that looks like a centuries old Roman Aqueduct. See amazing views of one of West Virginia's Top 10 most beautiful towns (according to The Culture Trip) from the Spencer Civil War Park. Visit the Chestnut Ridge Artist Colony from one trailhead. Ride the Tour de Lake Mountain Bike Race - one of the premier mountain biking events in West Virginia since 1994 held as the WVMBA season opener at Charles Fork Lake, this is the Daytona 500 of mountain biking. All trails are even lined with "fire tacks" making night time hiking and biking extra enjoyable.
