Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation

Beverly, WV

Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the preservation of the Rich Mountain Battlefield Civil War Site and associated Civil War Sites.

The Rich Mountain Battlefield is the site of the July 11, 1861 battle at the Hart Farm on Rich Mountain that led General George B. McClellan to leadership of the Army of the Potomac and gave the Union a foothold and control of western Virginia for the bulk of the Civil War. The site is 5 miles west of the town of Beverly, atop Rich Mountain. The Beverly Heritage Center is located at 4 Court Street in Beverly.

With the help of all its members, the dedicated STAFF and DIRECTORS of the Foundation have gotten the site of the battle, Camp Garnett, and the portion of the original turnpike which connects the two sites recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. This historic district, together with some important supporting property, is now the Rich Mountain Battlefield Civil War Site.
