What better way to celebrate the first day of spring than with a refreshing walk in a West Virginia State Park? Forget the hassle of picking the perfect path and choose from our list of terrific trails below. ⬇️

Giant Pine Trail 🌲

📍North Bend State Park

Named for the horseshoe curve of the North Fork of the Hughes River, this park is lush with hiking trails, abundant wildlife and fishing streams. Giant Pine Trail begins and ends across from the lodge. The beautiful path winds through a white pine thicket offering views of birds and deer, featuring moderate grades, smooth tread and changing sight lines.

Cranny Crow Overlook 🌤️

📍Lost River State Park

Take a trip to Lost River State Park for a rewarding hike up the mountain to Cranny Crow Overlook. Begin the 2-mile climb at the horse stables and be rewarded with spanning views at nearly 3,000 feet above sea level. Look out upon three West Virginia counties and two Virginia counties below. Enjoy a snack, take a break in the stone hut or snag a photo on the Almost Heaven swing.

Pase Point Trail 🥾

📍Blackwater Falls State Park

A lesser known trail within a popular state park, Pase Point Trail begins at the Harold S. Walters Nature Center, passing Pendleton Lake before entering the forest, home to thick stands of rhododendron. End with a decent to Pase Point Overlook, a rock outcrop with views of the gorge below.

Pipestem Knob Trail 🦅

📍Pipestem Resort State Park

This short walk gives way to a birds-eye-view of the park below after a climb to the top of the Pipestem Lookout Tower. The park’s highest point at 3,000 feet, find yourself in awe as you gaze across the stunning Appalachian plateau.

Cliffside Trail ⛰️

📍Hawks Nest State Park

Start at the Midland Trail Shelter to embark on this rugged journey through stunning geology and impressive overlooks to witness springtime come to life. Follow the white diamonds and end at U.S. Route 60. Cross the road and take the steps beside the gift shop to find your way back to the lodge.
