Celebrate the 4th of July in Almost Heaven
Summer’s celebration of independence sparks images of barbecues, swimming pools and fireworks. And communities around the state take part in these celebrations by honoring the history and heritage of the state.
1. Ripley’s 4th of July Celebration
Known as having one of the nation’s largest 4th of July celebrations, Ripley draws visitors from across the state to partake in Independence Day activities. Complete with a parade, carnival, musical performances, and, of course, fireworks, this celebration has been dubbed “USA’s Largest Small Town Independence Day Celebration” and dates back to the 1800s.
2. Homegrown Festival
See fireworks from 4848′ in the air! Snowshoe Mountain’s favorite celebration of Appalachian culture returns July 4 through July 6. The celebration will feature local musicians and artisans from the region, fun games and, of course, fireworks atop the mountain on Saturday night. Homegrown Festival is one of many summertime events held at Snowshoe Mountain.
3. ACE’s 4th of July Celebration
Nothing says summer like a water park. And at ACE Adventure Resort, you can celebrate the 4th of July on the water. They are hosting a celebration at Wonderland Waterpark, as well as their Annual Big Air Blob Competition. According to ACE, “Don’t know what the blob is? It is a giant airbag in which one person sits on the end of, this person is referred to as the Blobbie. The Blobber jumps off a tower onto the airbag sending the blobbie launching skyward.”
