Bite by Bite: Discover West Virginia’s Beloved Snack on the Pepperoni Roll Trail
Written by Sarah Goodrich, Marion County Convention and Visitors Bureau
Have you hopped on West Virginia’s Pepperoni Roll Trail? Rivals, Marion and Harrison Counties (both claim to be originators of the pepperoni roll), came together to create the ultimate experience for folks who enjoy West Virginia’s number one delicacy. The trail takes you to popular bakeries and restaurants throughout Harrison, Marion and Upshur Counties, where you can try various styles of pepperoni rolls.
In August 2025, the trail expanded to include local favorites from Tucker, Monongalia and Greenbrier Counties. Discover beloved local spots like Country Club Bakery in Fairmont and D’Annunzio’s Bakery in Clarksburg, along with hidden gems you may not have heard of, but will soon become a new favorite. While tasting the many styles of pepperoni rolls across the region, you might find yourself in a corner of West Virginia you’ve never experienced before. The trail is an adventure, both flavorful and Appalachian! Stick pepperoni? Yes. Ground pepperoni? Of course. Sliced pepperoni? Duh. Try all these styles and flavors and win Pepperoni Roll Trail merchandise!
