Explore the beautiful color of the state’s fall foliage and hike to gorgeous overlooks and scenic spots along incredible fall hikes. Choose from hikes like the Long Point Trail, a moderate level trail, which provides one-of-a-kind views of the New River Gorge Bridge. A truly iconic adventure, whitewater rafting in West Virginia is a must-do activity. Each September to mid-October, rafters travel to Almost Heaven for Gauley Season. During Gauley Season, the Summersville Dam executes a series of scheduled releases into the Gauley River creating iconic Class V rapids. If you’re newer to whitewater rafting, don’t worry. Fall Festivals

Held each year on the third Saturday in October, Bridge Day welcomes thousands of people making it the state’s largest single-day festival. At Bridge Day spectators can walk across the new River Gorge Bridge and watch BASE jumpers fly 876 feet into the gorge below from the catwalk.
On October 17-20, celebrate the heritage of the apple industry in West Virginia and enjoy family fun at the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival. The festival includes a Grand Feature Parade, live music, art fair, baking contests and more.
Head to Swilled Dog Hard Cider in Pendleton County on October 19 for the Swilled Fall Fest. The Swilled Fall Fest will feature live music, apple pressing, delicious food, children’s activities and much more.

Also, at the farm you can pick your own produce like blackberries, blueberries, black raspberries and more. Visit Gritt’s Farm Fun Farm for all things fall. The fun farm includes a pumpkin patch, corn maze, wagon rides and delicious fall food. A beautiful indoor-outdoor market, the Capitol Market is the perfect place for fall flavors. Inside, warm up with a cup of hot coffee from Mea Cuppa Coffeebar. Outside browse for pumpkins and seasonal produce at the market’s outdoor farmers market.
