A Snow-Lover’s Paradise: Ski the Valley
With its three premier ski resorts, Tucker County is packed with the winter action that we can’t get enough of this season. At an elevation of 4,000 ft, this region of Almost Heaven is blessed with a yearly snowfall of around 150 inches. Get ready to Ski the Valley!
Use this weekend itinerary to plan an action-packed winter getaway, not for the faint of heart! Not ready to take on all of these resorts at once? No problem. Pick and choose elements of this plan to create a more relaxed weekend.
Check-In: Begin your trip by checking into the beautiful Canaan Valley Resort State Park, which will serve as your home base. Cuddle up in a luxurious suite or find your place at one of the resort’s cabins & cottages.
Dinner: Once you are settled in, it’s time to go grab dinner. Head just 5 miles up the road to Sirianni’s Cafe’s Canaan Valley location and get a delicious pizza to go. Bring your pie back to your room to enjoy a feast in preparation for a busy next day.
Breakfast: Rise bright and early to prepare for your action-packed day! Head to the Breakfast Nook in Davis around 7 am for a hearty first meal. You can never go wrong with a steaming plate of biscuits and gravy before a chilly day spent out in the snow.
Hit the Slopes: After you’ve had your fill, it’s time to head to Timberline Mountain, where you can hit the slopes starting at 9 am. Enjoy the state of the art lifts at the newly reopened Timberline, which will get you to the top of the mountain quicker than you ever imagined. Whether you hit the slopes on skis or with a snowboard, you will have an action-packed day.
After a morning of action, call it quits around 1 pm to grab some lunch. Say goodbye to the beautiful Timberline Mountain and head to the mountain town of Thomas.
Lunch: Enjoy a fresh and filling lunch at the Purple Fiddle to recharge. With a meal of delicious house-made hummus and a filling wrap, you will be energized and ready for more.
Tubing Fun: Finish out the action of this day back at the Canaan Valley Resort State Park’s snow tubing park! Book the best two-hour time slot for you and let loose for some tubing fun.
Dinner: Wrap up the day with a yummy and convenient meal at Canaan’s Hickory Dining Room before heading back to your room for some well-deserved rest.
Breakfast: Shake off your sore muscles and get ready to refuel for another exciting day. Head to the Season’s Cafe before you check out of Canaan Valley Resort State Park to grab an easy breakfast.
Cross Country Fun: Make your way to the White Grass Touring Ski Touring Center to try your hand at cross country skiing. Enjoy over 50km of snowy backcountry and take it easy at this beautiful resort. With its friendly and passionate community, White Grass is the perfect place for both cross county beginners and experts.
Lunch: Wrap up your perfect ski weekend with a takeout lunch at the White Grass Cafe! Enjoy a world-famous bowl of their soup or a delectable baked treat.
