6 fun trips for toddlers in WV
If your kiddos are knee-high to a grasshopper, taking them on trips can be challenging— unless you bring them to West Virginia.
Toddlers are a wild mix of independence and fearlessness, and figuring out where to take them to play and explore can be tough. West Virginia has plenty of activities for toddlers who love excitement and adventure, and we also have plenty of wide-open spaces for them to play safely.
Here are the best vacation activities for toddlers all throughout the Mountain State:
1. Train Ride
Take a ride through the mountains along the the Potomac Eagle or with Mountain Rail Adventures. Pack a picnic, some toy trains and an engineer hat. You can relax and enjoy the amazing views as your little one plays conductor and watched the scenery swoop by.
2.Underground Coal Mine
Little toddlers will love the adventure of donning a mine helmet and riding a train underground, as well as touring the mine museum. With a hands-on Youth Museum on-site, the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine in Beckley is great for kids of all ages.
3. A Day at the Lake
Playing in the sand on the shore of a calm lake is relaxing for parents, while the little ones dig, play and build sand castles without the worry of big waves. Great lakes for tots include Cheat Lake, Summersville Lake and Stonewall Jackson Lake.
4. Clay Center
The Clay Center in Charleston makes learning fun for the little ones with art and science exhibits throughout the 2-story, 12,000-foot Avampato Discovery Museum.
5. You-Pick Farms
Little feet can run through the gardens and orchards, and the kids can eat healthy snacks at you-pick farms all over the state. Kids can pick blueberries at Blueberry Hill in the summer, or harvest apples in September and pumpkins in the fall.
6. Birds and Animals
Getting up-close with animals lets youngsters meet new feathered or furry friends. There are plenty of places in West Virginia for the kids to get up close and personal with animals— farm friends, native critters, majestic raptors and even creatures from far-away countries.
