5 Unique Stops Along the Mountain Music Trail

West Virginia is filled with hiking trails, ATV trails and river trails. A different type of trail goes along the eastern part of the state— the Mountain Music Trail.

The music trail’s goal is to promote and present traditional music, dance, and folkways of the Allegheny Mountain region.

The trail includes 18 stops, from Tucker Country to Monroe County with stops in Thomas, Lewisburg and Maxwelton. So, hop on the trail and check out these highlights:

1. Purple Fiddle Cafe, Brews and Stage

This family-friendly stop is in an old general store in Thomas. The Purple Fiddle hosts more than 300 live performances per year and offers a deli-style menu and wide selection of craft beer to enjoy with the music. If you want to stay a while, the Purple Fiddle has a hostel and a guesthouse to choose from, both in walking distance of the cafe.

2. Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company

Enjoy a craft beer or two at this stop in Maxwelton. The Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company, founded in 2012, hosts musical guests in its industrial taproom. Buy a brew and sit on the picnic tables while you listen to live music. Make sure to try a regionally inspired beer, like the Mothman Black IPA.

3. Randolph County Community Arts Center

The Randolph County Community Arts Center in Elkins aims to inspire people to create through its programming. The arts center hosts exhibits, art workshops and live music, including a monthly free concert for locals to enjoy. The building that houses the arts center was a catholic church, so take in the building’s beautiful architecture as you enjoy live music.

4. Carnegie Hall

With classes and events all year long, the Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg offers educational and musical experiences for all ages. This venue is perfect for artists and community members seeking to learn and create. Check out Carnegie Hall’s summer schedule to enjoy music on the venue’s lawn.

5. Snowshoe Mountain

Snowshoe Mountain hosts music festivals and events year-round. While you’re enjoying the music, check out all of Snowshoes outdoor activities and amenities, including mountain biking, ATV trails and swimming. Snowshoe has a variety of lodging options, so you can stay the night after a day of music.
