Experience Endless Possibilities with 48 Hours in the New River/Greenbrier Valley
Iconic sights. The harmony and melody of authentic Appalachian music. Local dishes with incredible flavor. The New River/Greenbrier Valley has it all, and while it will certainly take more than 48 hours to try it all, a weekend trip is more than enough to get you started.
Day 1
Begin your adventure in the charming city of Fayetteville. Located just minutes from the iconic New River Gorge Bridge, Fayetteville is abundant with adventure. Countless hiking trails, whitewater rafting outfitters, biking, climbing, locally owned restaurants and so much more await you in Fayetteville. Visit outfitters like ACE Adventure Resort, Adventures on the Gorge and River Expeditions to adventure down some of the world’s best whitewater.
Grab a bite to eat in downtown Fayetteville before heading to nearby Babcock State Park or Hawks Nest State Park for hiking and breathtaking scenery. Just south of Fayetteville, you’ll find Tamarack. Here, you can explore the work of West Virginia artisans and learn more about the history and culture of the Mountain State.
Day 2
Head south on Interstate 77 to Mercer County to kick off day 2. Walk the historic brick streets of Bramwell and view beautiful Victorian homes in the town of millionaires. Hike at neighboring Pinnacle Rock State Park for panoramic views of the southern coal fields of Almost Heaven.
