Within hiking distance to breathtaking views, swimming holes and unbeatable fishing spots, you’ll surely want to stay at one or all nine of these campsites and glampsites:

1. Audra State Park 

Hosting 65 campsites, 35 with electricity, this riverfront campsite is one for the books. Offering fun for any outdoor lover, visitors can walk the caved hiking trails, take a swim in the Middle Fork River, ride their bikes on the unique topography and much more. 

Audra State Park is a family-friendly environment that brings you all the Almost Heaven feels.

2. Big Bend Campground

Offering 46 campsites in the northern region of the Monongahela National Forest, this stay is a hub for watersports like fishing, kayaking and tubing. Near West Virginia’s well known Highland Scenic Highway, the seasonal views and reflection on the river from these campsites is unmatched. 

This site offers unique views of local wildlife in their natural habitat and some of the best bass-fishing around. 

3. Grandview Sandbar Campground

This peaceful campsite is located along the banks of the New River Gorge River. With epic river views and access steps right from your campsite, this is a water-lovers dream. A popular nighttime hangout, the sandbar is a great place to meet the locals in their natural habitat.

Only housing around 10 campsites, you’ll surely meet your camp neighbors on this quaint stay. 

4. Canaan Valley

Looking for a more luxurious campsite? Canaan Valley’s got you covered. Offering 34 campsites with full amenities in one of Almost Heaven’s most photographed regions, seasoned campers and newbies alike will enjoy this site. 

Guests can take in 360-degree views of the valley by taking a ride on the scenic chairlift to the top of Bald Knob. This is truly a camping experience of a lifetime. 

5. Holly River State Park

With 88 units, laundry facilities and bathhouses located in the Mountain State’s second-biggest state park, this adventure is perfect for families and solo travelers alike. Offering over 42-miles of trails in dense forest to explore on foot or bikes there is no shortage of scenic views.

6. Hawk Recreation Area and Campground

This is a sweet spot for seasoned campers and remote-life lovers. With hand-pumped water and an endless amount of nature, it’s easy to escape the hustle and bustle of reality. 

Offering 15 tent or trailer sites and 10 picnic areas in the heart of Allegheny Mountains, this is a breathtaking spot, especially in the spring and fall seasons. The wildflowers and animals are dotted throughout this region, making it one of our most stunning secluded stays. 

7. Bear Heaven Recreation Area and Campground

Located just outside of Elkins and the Otter Creek Wilderness is a great place to experience solitude and get closer to nature. With 8 irregularly spaced campsites ideal for tent camping, you’ll surely feel like a part of the forest. 

Be sure to bring anything you may need, including water, as this truly nature immersing experience simply provides all of the serene views you will need during your stay. Surrounded by unique rock croppings, guests will feel the true serenity and peace Almost Heaven offers. 

8. Twin Falls State Park

Featuring 50 campsites, 25 with electricity, this stay is a camping and waterfall lover’s dream. Named after two large waterfalls in the park, guests can easily bike or hike up to see these natural beauties. While the park is known for its scenic waterfalls, it’s also perfect for family camping.

Offering laundry facilities, two bathhouses, and facilities available year-round, this an easy and fun long-term stay. Campsites can be occupied for 14 days at a time, so get ready for your next two-week vacation. 

9. Chief Logan State Park

This campsite is the ideal place to experience the magic of a misty mountain morning. Offering 26 units, 14 with full water sewage and electric, and hot water for showers in the central bathhouse, you’ll surely fall in love with this rustic campsite. 

Only four miles north of Logan, this campsite is snuggled into the heart of West Virginia’s historic southern coalfields. Featuring a waterslide, swimming pool, amphitheater and more–this is one of our more eccentric destinations. We recommend swinging by the Hatfield-McCoy ATV trails for a unique historic experience.
