While spring brings opportunity for outdoor activities like hiking, fishing and rafting, it also brings the opportunity for hunting.
Spring turkey season runs through May 11, giving hunters a great window of opportunity to catch their yearly gobblers. Before you head out on your hunt, there are a few things you should know.
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources wants to ensure that every hunter has an enjoyable experience, but they also want to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Because of this, there are several guidelines and laws for spring turkey season:
- Hunters are permitted to hunt from sunrise to 1 p.m.
- Hunters cannot have an uncased firearm, bow or crossbow in their possession in the woods after 1 p.m., and are not allowed to use dogs to assist them with their hunting.
- There are several different calls hunters can use to attract turkey, but electronic calls are prohibited. Hunters are permitted one bearded turkey in a day, and two total for the season.
