Take a self-guided tour of the grounds for a close-up look at the 15 grape varieties which are used to make Daniel Vineyards’ delicious wines.

Kirkwood Winery & Isaiah Morgan Distillery

Drive a little over an hour to Summersville where you’ll find the unique Kirkwood Winery and Isaiah Morgan Distillery. Located in the rural valley in the heart of the state, Kirkwood Winery invites you to “enjoy a taste of the mountains” when you stop by for a tasting or a tour. While you’re there, try the winery’s savory wines made for cooking like Appalachian Ramp or Dandelion.

Chestnut Ridge Winery

Your next stop is the scenic Chestnut Ridge Winery, located in the town of Spencer. Here, you can try over 20 different types of wines that vary from traditional European style, semi-dry and semi-sweet dry wines. The winery’s deck is the perfect place to sit back and relax while enjoying the amazing drinks and beautiful views surrounding you.

Stone Road Vineyard

Make the short one-hour drive from Chestnut Ridge Winery to Stone Road Vineyard in Elizabeth. Stone Road Vineyard is family-owned and makes 14 handcrafted red and white varieties and blended wines. Stone Road Vineyard gives way to spanning, panoramic views of Wood, Wirt and Jackson counties.

WineTree Vineyards

Lucky for you, the next winery is only a short 30-minute drive. Take a tour at WineTree Vineyards in Vienna to see how they grow grapes, ferment and bottle their wines. Try one of their award-winning dry white and red wines like their Chardonnay that is a crisp, nicely balanced wine with delicate aromas of ripe apricot, pear and apple.

Lambert’s Vintage Winery

Head to the beautiful Mountain Lakes region of the state and stop at Lambert’s Vintage Winery in Weston. Unwind in a rocking chair made from hand-cut West Virginia stones as you taste exquisite flavors that have been in the making since 1993. This property also makes a great location for hosting weddings and events and will soon be serving up pizzas in the brand new wood fired oven. 

Batton Hollow Winery

Next up is the beautiful Batton Hollow Winery in Lost Creek. At Batton Hollow Winery, tour the gorgeous winery or taste one of their award-winning wines like their Ruby Red, a sweet red dessert wine made from Noiret grapes. It’s a perfect drink to sip on after dinner. Or try their Summer Breeze wine, a sweet wine made from Vidal Blanc grapes and made for summertime sipping.

West-Whitehill Winery

The three-hour trek to West-Whitehill Winery in Moorfield takes travelers throughout the stunning Potomac Highlands region of the state, make the drive worth all the while. Founded in 1981, West-Whitehill Winery makes wines from French-American hybrid varietals such as Chambourcin, Seyval, Aurore and Vidal. Don’t forget to try the Highland Mist Wine, which is a favorite among many.

Potomac Highland Winery

Stay in the Potomac Highlands region, where you’ll find your next winery just 55 minutes away in Keyser. Founded in 1992, Potomac Highland Winery is a winery known for producing fine table wines. The owners still oversee each aspect of production from the harvesting of the grapes to the final bottling of the wine. For red wine lovers, try their Meritage, Pinot Noir, Chambourcin, Chancellor or Seyval Blush. For white wine lovers, try their Chardonnay, Riesling or Seyval Blanc.

Forks of Cheat Winery

Your next destination is the luxurious Forks of Cheat Winery in Morgantown. Visit the tasting room where you can try their red wines, white wines, fruit wines, dessert wines, specialty wines and blushes. Their Vidal Blanc, Van Buren and Mon Doux wines are always a crowd-pleaser no matter the time of year.
