Summers in Almost Heaven make it difficult to want to stay inside. Luckily, there are plenty of enjoyable outdoor options that will be sure to pique your interest.
1. Adventure Around Waterfalls
Blackwater Falls is a stunning place to visit – and West Virginia is home to even more waterfalls. Black Fork Falls, Cathedral Falls, and Wonder Falls, to name a few, are a handful of the 200 plus waterfalls within the state. Pack a picnic or pick a hiking trail and spend the day marveling at any of these beautiful locations.
2. Go to U-Pick Farms
Something about using a little bit of elbow grease to pick your own berries and produce makes them taste that much better. Orr’s Farm, Sunset Berry Farm and Shady Oaks Blueberry Farm are a few of the u-pick farms in the Mountain State. Once you taste how fresh the crops from these farms are, you won’t want to buy them from a grocery store again.
3. Camp in a State Park
Among the 45 state parks in Almost Heaven, 27 have amenities that allow you to camp within them. Whether you want a more remote camping experience, one where you can be near a body of water, or one with more entertainment options available—you’ll find your bliss here.
4. Cool Off at the Lake
With more than 100 lakes in the state, you could go to a different one every day of the summer if you felt like it. Whether it’s stand up paddle boarding on Summersville Lake, kayaking on Stonewall Jackson Lake, or swimming in Cheat Lake, you’ll beat the heat in these refreshing bodies of water.
5. Have Fun at Fairs and Festivals
Whether you’re a foodie, music lover, or just enjoy a good ole carnival ride, West Virginia has plenty of events happening throughout the summer that you will appreciate. The Almost Heaven BBQ Bash in Weston is the perfect event for foodies. Pickin’ in Parsons, recently dubbed as the International Bluegrass Music Awards’ 2018 event of the year, will bring joy to all music fanatics.
How will you be spending your free time this summer?
