Resorts and state parks provide many activities, including, at many locations, the opportunity to enjoy shooting sports . Check out these options to put your aim to the test and see if you can hit the target. Below are shooting ranges and where to find them.
Canaan Valley Resort State Park
With 160 rooms, 23 cabins and 34 campsites, Canaan Valley Resort provides lodging for any occasion. No matter the season, you’ll find no shortage of activities, including their exclusive shooting range. Enhance your experience with a round of clay shooting at their sporting range, located at the Bald Knob trailhead at the resort’s ski area.
Have you ever thought of shooting clays as a zen activity? “The instinct rules,” according to Jim Flynn, Range Safety Officer for sporting clays & archery at Canaan Valley Resort State Park. No hunting license is required to participate and each session includes 25 shots and five stands.
Along with shooting clays, Canaan Valley Resort State Park will soon be adding a new archery range. The new range features five ground-level shooting lanes. Each lane is equipped with a standard 3’ round target set with a range from 10 to 35 yards.
The Greenbrier
Sip on a refreshing cocktail, explore 11,000 acres of beautiful mountains, or test your luck at the on-site casino. Since their Gun Club’s inception in 1913, skeet and trap shooting have been popular pastimes at The Greenbrier. Located atop Kate’s Mountain, the Gun Club’s current offerings include four combination trap and skeet fields and a 10-station sporting clays course.
The sporting clays course was designed by Justin Jones and John Higgins of the British School of Shooting and challenges shooters of all skill levels. They provide each group of up to five shooters with a Professional Trap Attendant to ensure that each shooter has a safe and enjoyable experience while shooting trap, skeet or sporting clays at the Gun Club.
Kanawha State Forest
This small shooting range is a perfect area to test your skills. Not only is it open to the public and free to use, it’s also located in the Kanawha State Forest, one of the state’s largest in the southern region.
The shooting range provides covered shooting stalls for the convenience of visitors. Only paper targets are allowed. The forest range is free to the public for use, open during daylight hours and subject to closure for maintenance.
Whether you’re trying to practice your aim or looking for an exciting activity to try, the Mountain State has you covered.
Tango Down Range
Located in Hedgesville, Tango Down Range is another great spot in the Mountain State to test your firearms. Open to the public, it offers 20 lanes of shooting for both rifle and pistols, NRA safety rangers on duty and over 100-yard targets to focus on those longer shot rifles.
We hope this was able to help you find shooting ranges and where to find them in almost heaven.
