Witness the 2025 Spartan Trifecta World Championship at Summit Bechtel Reserve
Charleston, W.Va. – For the first time in Spartan history, the prestigious Trifecta World Championship is taking place on U.S. soil in the Mountain State. Previously held in Sparta, Greece, the 2025 World Championship will bring thousands of the world’s best athletes to the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean, West Virginia, from September 6-7, 2025. Locals are encouraged to purchase daily spectator passes to experience this one-of-a-kind, high-energy weekend. Those interested in trying the course can register for Open Heat events designed for enjoyment rather than competition.
“West Virginia’s terrain doesn’t care who you are — it’ll show you that you’re capable of far more than you ever imagined,” said Spartan Founder and CEO Joe De Sena. “Bringing the Trifecta World Championship here, on U.S. soil for the first time, raises the stakes even higher. This is where Spartans from around the world come to earn their place in history — one obstacle at a time.”
Race festivities will kick off with an official Opening Ceremony on Thursday, September 4, in the capital city of Charleston. Events will include a press conference, athlete presentations, live music, and a Celebration of Nations Parade along Kanawha Boulevard.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this historic moment and welcome the 2025 Spartan Trifecta World Championship to Almost Heaven, West Virginia,” said West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “Although West Virginia has hosted smaller Spartan races for years, this one is the race of a lifetime. A huge thank you goes to the folks at Summit Bechtel Reserve, Visit Southern WV CVB and Charleston CVB for making this possible and for helping us host this incredible outdoor event.”
The Spartan Trifecta World Championship attracts nearly 8,000 athletes from more than 30 countries and features both Elite and Open Heats. Specifically designed for competitive racers running for podium spots, Elite Heats require earning a spot with a previous qualifying race. Open Heats allow participants to experience a championship atmosphere without strict requirements and are often completed for personal achievement.
Composed of a Sprint (5K, 20+ obstacles), Super (10K, 25+ obstacles) and Beast (21K, 30+ obstacles), Elite Spartan participants must complete in all three races within a single weekend for a chance at the grand prize. Featured obstacles include Spartan Columns, Shield and Spear Throw, the “Stairway to Sparta,” and more.
“We’re honored to welcome the 2025 Spartan Trifecta World Championships to the Summit Bechtel Reserve,” said Business Development Manager Ryan King. “This is an incredible opportunity to showcase not only our world-class facility, but also the breathtaking natural beauty and warm hospitality of Fayette County and West Virginia. We can’t wait for athletes and fans from around the globe to experience everything our region has to offer.”
Nestled in the heart of Fayette County, the Summit Bechtel Reserve boasts more than 14,000 acres of rugged terrain and scenic views. From technical river crossings and dense forest trails to strenuous elevation gains and a towering suspension bridge, this race will challenge even the most seasoned Spartan competitors. Located just minutes from one of the nation’s newest national parks, the New River Gorge is an oasis of world-class outdoor recreation and jaw-dropping scenery.
