Leaf peeping itinerary featuring apple picking, horseback riding, and spooky mystery walk
Charleston, WV – Although October is quickly coming to an end, trees across West Virginia continue to magically transform into shades of gold, amber, and garnet. Thanks to cool nights and sunny days, the magnificent autumn colors that attract visitors from around the world to the Mountain State are expected to last a little while longer.
“I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the last few weeks of our fall foliage season,” said West Virginia Division of Forestry Director Jeremy Jones. “We anticipate peak colors to settle into many areas of the state this week, making it the perfect time to take a scenic drive on our iconic country roads.”
“This fall season continues to get more beautiful the longer it lasts,” said West Virginia Department of Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “From this evening’s Halloween Bash to our state-wide Paranormal Trail, there’s an adventure for every type of traveler to enjoy this week in the Mountain State.”
The last of the Department of Tourism’s weekly leaf-peeping itineraries, this week’s pre-planned trip features an Almost Heaven swing, horseback riding, apple picking, a spine-chilling mystery tour, and more!
Leaf-Peeping Itinerary
🌄 Take in the autumn sunrise atop Cacapon Mountain Overlook within Cacapon Resort State Park. While here, be sure to grab a picture-perfect selfie on the Almost Heaven swing.
🐴 Traverse through stunning fall scenery with a guided horseback ride with Triple C Outfitters.
🍂 Grab lunch at the Canary Grill and explore downtown Berkeley Springs.
🎃 Pick-your-own pumpkins and apples at Orr’s Farm Market in Martinsburg. Don’t miss grabbing a fresh apple cider donut!
🍴 Continue to Shepherdstown and enjoy an authentic German meal at the Bavarian Inn.
🧳 Stay overnight in Jefferson County.
