Wine&Music at Appalachian Snail – ACMF Summer Festival - August 10, 2026

From Jail to Juilliard and Beyond tells the compelling true-life autobiographical story of a young man in prison, consumed by anger—until a cast-off guitar changes everything.

From behind bars, he is accepted as a music major at Virginia Commonwealth University while still awaiting parole. Ultimately, he earns a Doctor of Musical Arts from The Juilliard School while building a life as a teacher and performer, devoted to the work he loves.

What begins in isolation grows into connection. What begins in anger opens into something larger.

A deeply human story about transformation and family—and a candid, well-informed reflection on the societal and practical realities of the justice system, the role of race, and the quiet, often unseen forces that shape how a life unfolds.
