Charleston, WV
Begin your trip in hip and historic Charleston.
Travel Tip: If you are coming to #AlmostHeaven by way of flight, begin your trip in Charleston’s West Virginia International Yeager Airport. The Yeager Airport will provide a hassle-free transition into the capitol city, with its convenient location and available amenities.
Enjoy breakfast at Starlings Coffee and Provisions to fuel up for a day of adventure. With fresh-smoked salmon bagels, fresh fruit muffins and more you will surely leave full.
As morning shifts into afternoon, head over to the West Virginia State Capitol Complex to catch a sight of the beautiful capitol architecture. With its golden dome and lush landscaping, the capitol building is a sight for sore eyes on any late summer or early fall day.
After some time enjoying the beautiful capitol grounds, head a few streets over to the Capitol Market. This renovated freight station is home to an indoor farmers market, specialty shops and unique dining. If you are there at the right time of year, you might even find some farm fresh pumpkins and gourds.
Putnam County
After you pick up a few mementos from the artisans at the Capitol Market, hop in the car and head a few miles up the road to Putnam County.
Make your way into Teays Valley where you will find many options for the perfect lunch. We recommend you give Barnyard BBQ a go! With hickory smoked options like ribs and country classic sides such as Mac-N-Cheese their menu has something for everyone.
Travel Tip: After this one day tour, we recommend you come back into Putnam County for some fun at Kanawha Watersports in Winfield. With waterskiing, wakeboarding and tubing there is no better place to spend a day on the water.
Huntington
Next you are going to want to head east to Huntington, where the fun is just starting.
Take a stroll through the renovated Shops at Heritage Station, a unique open-air shopping center. With unique boutiques, a yoga studio and a DIY candle bar, this is the perfect place to kill a few hours as the sun starts to set.
Huntington is full of classic diners and unique new eateries, making dinner a difficult decision. For the perfect evening round up, we recommend you call up Backyard Pizza and Raw Bar and order a few wood-fired pies to-go.
Travel Tip: Take your pies and head for one of the many picnic tables at Ritter Park. Enjoy the shade from the historic trees or the babbling stream for some evening peace with the family.
End your day with a night cap at any of the unique nightlife options in town. Whether you are more into the wine and whiskey scene or looking for a lively arcade bar, Huntington has the place for you.
