Welcome to West Virginia, Scouts!

For the first time since 1967, the World Scout Jamboree will be held in the United States. And it’ll be right in Almost Heaven for the first time ever. Starting July 22, West Virginia will be welcoming 45,000 scouts from more than 165 different countries to participate in the 24th World Scout Jamboree taking place at the Bechtel Summit Reserve. This year’s theme of “Unlock a New World” will allow participants from across the globe to unlock their new world in Almost Heaven.

What is a World Scout Jamboree?

While most are familiar with the National Boy Scout Jamboree, the World Jamboree differs in a variety of ways. The focus of a World Jamboree is for the scouts to meet and get to know scouts from all different counties and backgrounds. While the scouts still get to participate in the fun high-adventure activities, they also have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultures of their fellow scouts while learning about sustainability, peace and community service.

Summit Bechtel Reserve

With more than 14,000 acres of land, endless outdoor activities and amazing scenery, the Boy Scouts of America leaders knew this Almost Heaven spot would be the perfect place to host the World Scout Jamboree. Previously referred to by locals as the Garden Ground Mountain property, it soon changed to the Summit Bechtel Reserve. BSA leaders chose this Almost Heaven site after a long two-year search for a permanent location to hold the National Scout Jamboree. One of the major factors that influenced the leader’s decision was the proximity of the New River Gorge National River. Located in the southern part of the state, the New River-Greenbrier Valley Region is home to unmatched outdoor recreation, picturesque views and more making it the perfect area for the scouts to explore during their time at the Summit.
