Winter train rides

Ride a vintage locomotive for the year’s most magical Christmas tradition!

Starting in late November, the romantic age of steam travel whisks you to enchanted destinations around the state. Meet Santa, sip hot chocolate and experience the thrill of a Polar Express— for real.

1. The Elf Limited

Jinx the elf is trying to get to the North Pole! Will he get the special job he has his sights on? Join him and 11 other hopeful elves who want to join Santa’s team on a Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad train! Mr. Claus himself will be there to pick the best elves for the job, so cheer on your favorite magic makers.

2. Christmas at Cass

Hop on board a train and join Santa’s entourage at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park for a merry evening of good cheer. Trains depart in the evening, so spectacular stargazing is guaranteed!

3. The Polar Express

Ride the Polar Express, just like the classic movie and book! Durbin & Greenbrier’s Christmas adventure captures every beloved detail. Wear pajamas, get your ticket punched by the conductor and watch elves jig down the aisle! Listen to a live reading of “The Polar Express” while you family sips hot cocoa, too. Best of all, you’ll receive a silver bell from Santa (if you’re a true believer, that is!)

4. Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad’s North Pole Express

Each winter experience the magic of the season with a serene train ride through the mountains. Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad’s North Pole Express comes complete with storytelling, Christmas caroling, cocoa and hot cider and of course Mrs. Claus’ famous cookies. The 75-minute interactive ride even includes a visit from Santa himself.

Which train will whisk your family away through holiday wonder?
