West Virginia is home to many festivals, but one of the most beloved is the Appalachian String Band Festival. Since 1990, thousands of string band musicians from around the world have flocked to Clifftop to camp for several days at Camp Washington Carver. Festival-goers meet to celebrate old-time music and its evolution over the years. The Appalachian String Band Festival features contests varying in genre from traditional to modern band, modern fiddle, old-time banjo and many others.
The next Appalachian String Band Festival will be held July 31 – Aug. 4, 2019, and tickets can be purchased through the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History. Camp Washington Carver is conveniently located just a few miles from Babcock State Park which is home to the iconic Glade Creek Grist Mill. The camp is also located just a short drive from the New River Gorge Bridge and Hawks Nest State Park! After enjoying a weekend full of great music, be sure to explore some of these unforgettable Almost Heaven locations.
