Partner Communications and Events Specialist

The West Virginia Department of Tourism seeks a Partner Communications and Events Specialist to support tourism businesses and initiatives across the state, as part of the Destination Development team.

This position will be the main point of contact for tourism industry partners seeking to access the Department of Tourism’s resources and will be responsible for communications with partners, maintaining a database of contacts, and planning events that serve the industry.

Sample duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop industry programs and events – including conferences and webinars – that provide support for and grow West Virginia’s tourism industry
  • Organize program and event logistics and timelines, executing them across all four seasons
  • Manage and regularly update Salesforce database of industry contacts
  • Maintain an industry newsletter for partner communications and announcements
  • Attend meetings (virtual and in-person) with stakeholder groups
  • Monitor the progress of programs, maintain deadlines, and propose adjustments to expand programs in future years
  • Monitor industry-wide trends and look for research that can help support and grow tourism programs
  • Reach out to industry groups and new tourism businesses, increasing partner engagement with the Department of Tourism
  • Foster engagement and collaboration between partners

Additional knowledge and skills required include:

  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize numerous projects and complete them under time constraints
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as the Google Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with different teams and independently
  • Organized, detail-oriented and excellent time management skills
  • Flexible with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated interest in the hospitality/tourism industry
  • Comfortable with learning new technology and troubleshooting technology with others
  • Ability to travel on occasion to local training or seminars

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business, communications or marketing preferred but not required.

This position will report to the Director of Destination Development and work closely with all other teams. The job is located at the State Capitol in Charleston and works full-time, regular business hours. Competitive pay and benefits. Some travel required.
