Every February, Opry Night showcases the best in local and regional talent in traditional music and bluegrass with new twists on familiar favorites. This year we welcome Born Old, an Old-time duo comprised of Doug Van Gundy on fiddle and guitar and Paul Gartner on banjo and guitar. Born Old’s members have dedicated their careers to learning, sharing, and sustaining the traditional music of Appalachia, as well as getting close to the source whenever possible. They perform regularly throughout West Virginia and have been featured on Mountain Stage, the Appalachian String Band Festival and the Vandalia Gathering. Also performing during Opry Night is Robin Kessinger, a flat-pick guitar legend and native West Virginian. Robin will be performing with Pocahontas County’s own Hazel Riley, who was the Blue Ribbon Youth Flat Pick champion at the 2018 Vandalia Gathering held in Charleston, WV. Robin and Hazel will also be supported by Pocahontas County native Joanna Burt-Kinderman on bass.
