Grand Re-Opening of West Virginia Mine Wars Museum

May 16, 2020 @ 8:00 am

Founded in 2015, the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum unearths a compelling story of coal miners and their struggle for freedom and justice at the turn of the 20th century. Featuring the largest curated collection of artifacts and relics from the Mine Wars eras, the Museum encases world class exhibits on Coal Camp Life, the Paint Creek-Cabin Creek Strike, the Battles of Matewan and Blair Mountain, and the Blair Mountain Treason Trials. The Museum recently moved their collections to a new and larger building in Matewan to expand on this unique story through new and updated exhibits. The Grand Re-Opening will take place on May 16, 2020-the town of Matewan’s observance of the 100 Year Anniversary of the Battle of Matewan–and will be accompanied by a day full of interpretive performances and activities beginning at 8 a.m.
