Snow on the ground. Frost on the windows. A chill in the air. And yet the irony of winter in West Virginia…is just how warm it makes you feel. This is the outdoor playground that you can make all your own.


Day 1

Begin your winter adventure at Winterplace Ski Resort. Located between Bluefield and Beckley, Winterplace offers 27 trails, 9 lifts, 2 terrain parks, and West Virginia’s largest snowtubing park. If you can’t ski or snowboard, don’t worry! Winterplace offers lessons and was voted the #1 resort to learn to ski/snowboard at by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine. When you’ve finished on the slopes, make your way to neighboring Beckley and grab a bite to eat at The Char, Pasquale’s, or world-famous Tamarack.

Day 2

Make your way to scenic Pocahontas County to hit the slopes at Snowshoe Mountain. You’ll find a variety of lodging options that can accommodate a group of any size on any budget. You have over 60 slopes to choose from at Snowshoe, so there is no shortage of excitement and adventure to discover. For dinner, visit Foxfire Grille Bar or The Fiddlehead Restaurant and Bar – a part of the Mountain Music Trail – for live music while you dine! End your night at Split Rock Pools, which offers indoor and outdoor heated pools, hot tubs, and a sauna.

Day 3

Start your final day in one of West Virginia’s most iconic locations, Canaan Valley. At Canaan Valley Resort State Park enjoy outdoor adventures and cozy lodging. For some of the most exciting cross-country skiing in the state, make your way to White Grass Ski Touring Center. White Grass offers more than 60 km of trails to explore at elevations that range from 3220 to 4463 feet! After you’ve had your fun on the slopes, make your way into the neighboring towns of Davis and Thomas. Take in live music and terrific dishes at The Purple Fiddle or grab a burrito and a craft beer at Hellbender Burritos.
